Erectile Dysfunction drugs may heighten the level of Orgasm Hormone
Tuesday September 11, 2007

If the findings of a new research are believed, erectile dysfunction drugs such as Cialis, Viagra & Levitra may augment the fabrication of oxytocin, a reproductive hormone discharged during orgasm.

The study was carried out by scientists at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Researchers examined Tadalafil (active ingredient of Cialis) sildenafil (active ingredient of Viagra), vardenafil (active ingredient Levitra), and an allied chemical known as T-1032 on rats in the lab tests.

The researchers made rats to expose their pituitary gland’s part to these chemicals which also are known as PDE5 inhibitors, in addition to mild electrical stimulation. As a result, the rats' pituitary glands formed more oxytocin.

Is this possible in humans too? The study doesn't answer this critical question.

Thus, an advance study is essential on this topic as oxytocin plays an important role in various reproductive functions, mark researcher Meyer Jackson, Ph.D., and colleagues.

But this study exhibits no signs of improved oxytocin fabrication without stimulation.

"Erectile dysfunction drugs do not result erections spontaneously; they only enhance the response to sexual stimulation," Jackson affirms.

"The same thing is applicable in case of rats' posterior pituitary. Cialis, Viagra and other ED releted drugs will not encourage the liberation of oxytocin on its own, but it will only augment the amount of release that one get in response to electrical stimulation," states Jackson.
