Man Pleads Guilty For Selling Cialis Without Prescription
Friday Jun 19, 2009
A former Oakland resident could face stiff penalties after pleading guilty to distributing drugs purported to be Viagra and Cialis without a prescription, federal prosecutors said. Roger L. Hollins Roberts, 50 — formerly known as Roger L. Hollins — was charged in April and pleaded guilty Thursday to misbranding drugs while held for sale with intent to defraud or mislead, a crime punishable by up to three years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. His plea agreement remains under seal until his sentencing, which is scheduled for Sept. 24 before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White in San Francisco.
Roberts admitted to operating www.viagra-on-wheels.com and www.sexpills-on-wheels.com, which advertised local delivery or overnight mail delivery of brand-name prescription erectile dysfunction drugs, particularly Viagra and Cialis. Actually, the drugs he sold through these Web sites were imported from the People's Republic of China and Mexico and, although they contained the same active ingredients, were mislabeled as the brand-name drugs, federal prosecutors noted.
Roberts also admitted that his Web sites falsely stated the drugs were approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, that they were obtained directly from licensed pharmaceutical manufacturers, and that they were sold in compliance with FDA regulations. Roberts has never been registered in California as a pharmacist or licensed medical practitioner. |
